Erosion Survey by 20/20 NDT Combines Radiographic & Ultrasonic Testing

Our process of conducting an erosion survey combines Shadow Shot Radio and Ultrasonic Testing (UT). Using both methods allow us to inspect 17” of pipe at a time.

20/20 NDT’s process of conducting an erosion survey uses a combined method of Shadow Shot Radiographic and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
Ultrasonic thickness readings alone only cover an area the size of a pencil eraser with each reading.
Even with multiple readings, it is difficult to guarantee an exact hit on the area of interest.
20/20 NDT combines the ultrasonic testing method with Shadow Shot technology to inspect 17” of pipe at one time. If there is any pitting at all, we will be able to see it in the images.
This is a picture of exactly how a Shadow Shot image appears. Note that the pitting is easily detected.
