Understand Our Testing Process

In order to assess the health of your pipes, our professionals conduct a corrosion inspection. Here’s what we’ll watch for:

  • Thinning pipe walls
  • Pitting and pinholes
  • Hairline cracks
  • Sand wash damage
  • Other corrosion or erosion

Depending on your industrial needs, we perform one or several of the following four tests on your systems.

1. RT (Radiographic Testing)

Much in the way that a medical doctor might order a chest x-ray to determine problems within the body, our engineers conduct radiographic testing via x-ray or gamma ray technology. This is an effective way of finding cracks, porous areas, and any other pipe inclusions.
Advantages: RT works well on pressurized piping, structural welds, high-capacity storage, and many other materials.

2. UT (Ultrasonic Testing)

Ultrasonic tests employ high frequencies to measure pipes externally and internally, evaluate flaws, and test pipes that can only be accessed from one side. UT can be conducted on both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, and it may detect cracks missed by RT or other tests.
Advantages: UT detects even the smallest flaws, is non-hazardous to conduct, and is portable.

3. MT (Magnetic Particle Testing)

The basics of MT allow us to create a magnetic field within a ferrous material, dust its surface with iron particles, and watch where they accumulate. This shows where the structural weaknesses are.
Advantages: MT easily detects surface cracks and other discontinuities in a cost-effective manner.

4. PT (Dye Penetrant Testing)

We apply a strong dye on pipes, allow it to penetrate, remove the excess penetrant, and then apply a developer that makes the cracks and anomalies visible.
Advantages: This is a cost-effective test that generally works best on casting, forging, and welding surface defects.
